Namaste, friends. Welcome back to Hindi Kisse Kahaniyan. Today’s story is about a simple, honest man and a clever moneylender, and standing between them was none other than Bajrangbali (Lord Hanuman) himself. So listen to this short story, filled with a lesson.
In a village lived Gopal. A very simple and honest man. He had a small piece of land, and to plough it, he needed to buy an ox. He had no money, so he borrowed fifty rupees from the village’s moneylender, Seth Jagannath.
A month later, when the crop was ready, Gopal happily went to the Seth. He not only returned the fifty rupees but also presented him with a box of sweets as a token of gratitude for his kindness.
But Seth was extremely miserly and greedy. He thought, “Why not extract more money from this innocent man?” While taking the money, he said, “Gopal, this is just the interest. Now return the actual fifty rupees.”
Gopal (with desperation): “Seth ji, what are you saying? I returned your fifty rupees just today!”
Jagannath (smugly): “Proof? Where is your proof? Is there any witness?”
Poor Gopal began to sob uncontrollably. Finally, their matter reached the village’s Hanuman temple. The village elders said, “Come, let’s ask Hanuman ji. He always stands with the truth.”
Everyone prayed together before the idol of Hanuman Ji. One elder said, “O Son of the Wind (Pavanputra). You tell us, which of these two is speaking the truth? Tomorrow morning, whoever’s garland is around your neck will be the truthful one.”
The next morning, the entire village gathered at the temple. Everyone’s gaze was fixed on Hanuman ji’s neck. And there… a golden garland was shimmering.
Seth Jagannath jumped with joy. “See! Hanuman ji has declared me truthful by wearing my garland.” And he stepped forward to wear the garland.
But then, the elder grabbed his hand and said in a grave tone, “Stop, Seth. Hanuman ji has not declared you truthful, but has given you a reward for your cunning. This garland is here because you sneaked in last night and put it on, so that you would be declared truthful. The truthful one is he who did nothing. The truthful one is Gopal.”
Seth’s head bowed in shame. He confessed his crime and apologized to Gopal.
The lesson is this, friends: truth always wins. No matter what the world says, the one above is watching everything.
