The Blind Vulture and the Cat

The Blind Vulture and the Cat

On an old banyan tree lived a kind old vulture named Blind Uncle. His eyes could no longer see, but his ears were super sharp, and his heart was full of love. All the little birds of the jungle adored him. They brought him food, listened to his stories, and followed his advice.

One day, a clever cat named Sweetie passed under the tree. She looked up and thought, “So many tasty birds… but the tree is too high, and they’re too careful. I need a smart plan.”

The next day, Sweetie started crying loudly. Blind Uncle asked, “Who is crying so much?” Sweetie replied with tears, “I’m an orphan, Uncle… I have no mom or dad… nobody loves me… I’ve come here only for shelter.”

Blind Uncle’s heart melted. He told the birds, “Let her come up. We’ll all take care of her together.” The birds were a little scared, but they couldn’t say no to Uncle. So Sweetie was given a place on the tree.

During the day, Sweetie was super helpful; she massaged Uncle’s back, brought him water, and spoke sweetly. Uncle was very happy. But at night, when everyone slept, she quietly caught and ate one or two birds and cleaned everything before morning. Slowly, the number of birds started going down. Everyone was frightened.

One night, a little sparrow saw what Sweetie was doing. She whispered in Blind Uncle’s ear, “Uncle, it’s the cat who is eating us at night.”

Uncle pretended to sleep. When Sweetie came again, he gently but firmly caught her tail with his strong beak and said, “Sweetie dear, you have broken our trust. Now you must leave.”

Sweetie cried, “I was hungry, Uncle… please forgive me.” Uncle replied, “You can always ask for food honestly. We would have shared. Lies and cheating are never okay.”

All the birds together safely helped Sweetie down the tree. Feeling ashamed, she left. From that day, she lived only on fruits and flowers and never cheated anyone again.

Blind Uncle hugged everyone and said, “See, even without eyes, truth can be heard.”

Moral Lesson: It’s good to be kind, but don’t trust anyone completely without checking. Truth and trust are the foundation of real friendship.
