In a village lived a kind and simple Brahmin called Pandit Ji. He had a very sweet white goat named Moti who welcomed him every morning and evening with a happy “Maa… Maa…”
One night, a clever thief named Greedy Lallu sneaked into Pandit Ji’s house. He picked up Moti, put her on his shoulder, and started running away. Moti shouted loudly, “Maa… Maa… Help! A thief is taking me!”
Lallu got scared that someone would hear. He spoke sweetly, “Shh, Moti darling, be quiet. I’m taking you to your mom and dad. Pandit Ji himself sent me.”
Moti became a little quiet, but then said, “But Pandit Ji is sleeping!” Lallu quickly replied, “No, no, he told me to take you to a new home with lots of green grass.”
On the way, they met three dogs who started barking. Lallu told them, “Brothers, this is my own goat, I’m taking her home.” The dogs asked Moti, “Is it true?” Moti, now confused by Lallu’s words, said, “Yes, yes, he is my owner.”
Then they met a cow. The cow asked, “Moti, where are you going so late?” Lallu said, “She’s my sister, I’m taking her to her in-laws’ house.” Moti stayed silent.
Finally, Lallu reached his house, tied Moti, and went to sleep. In the morning, when he came to see her, Moti was gone! Only the cut rope was left.
Actually, in the night, Moti realized her mistake. She used her strong teeth to bite the rope and quietly ran back to Pandit Ji. In the morning, Pandit Ji hugged Moti happily and said, “My dear Moti is back!”
Meanwhile, Greedy Lallu cried, “I told so many lies, yet the goat escaped!”
From that day, Moti never fully trusted a stranger’s sweet words, and Lallu gave up stealing.
Moral Lesson: Don’t forget the truth just because someone speaks sweetly. Always listen to your heart and trust what is right.
