In a big, beautiful pond lived three best-fish-friends:
- Smartest was Buddhimati; she always thought ahead.
- Middle-Smart liked to think sometimes, but not always.
- Lazy-Fish just loved to play and said, “Whatever happens, we’ll see!”
One evening, Buddhimati overheard two fishermen by the pond saying, “Tomorrow morning we’ll bring the big net, this pond is full of fish!” Buddhimati got scared and called her friends. “We must leave tonight through the river path to another pond. Danger is coming!”
Middle-Smart said, “Okay, we’ll go… but it’s still evening, let’s play a little more first.” Lazy-Fish laughed, “Why worry so much? When they come, we’ll hide. I’m not going anywhere, I’m sleepy!”
Buddhimati begged them, but they wouldn’t listen. So she quietly slipped away alone at night and reached a safe new pond.
The next morning, the fishermen came and threw their huge net. Middle-Smart and Lazy-Fish both got caught! Middle-Smart quickly thought of a plan: she floated belly-up like a dead fish. The fishermen thought she was already dead, tossed her out of the net, and the moment she touched water, she zoomed away to safety.
But Lazy-Fish panicked, swam here and there shouting “Help! Help!” and got put straight into the basket.
In the new pond, Buddhimati and Middle-Smart met again. Middle-Smart cried, “I didn’t listen to you… and I couldn’t save Lazy-Fish.” Buddhimati hugged her and said, “Now we are together. From today, we’ll always be extra careful.”
From that day, the two friends always planned ahead and lived happily ever after in their new home.
Moral Lesson: See danger early and find a solution before it arrives. Saying “We’ll see what happens” can sometimes cost too much.
