The Deer and the Jackal

The Deer and the Jackal

In the jungle lived a very sweet deer named Chanchala. She had sparkly eyes and could run super fast. Her little baby Chiku was always with her. The mother and son played in the grassy meadow and enjoyed the smell of flowers.

Nearby lived a clever jackal named Bhulavu. He was jealous of how fast Chanchala could run. He thought, “No matter how much I run, this deer always beats me. I have to win!”

One day, Bhulavu made a naughty plan. He dug a big hole and covered it with dry grass and leaves. Then he went to Chanchala and said very sweetly, “Sister Chanchala, let’s have a running race today! Whoever wins will be called the fastest in the jungle.”

Chanchala loved games. She said, “Okay! But my baby Chiku will run with me.” Bhulavu smiled and said, “Of course!”

The race began. Chanchala and Chiku zoomed ahead. Bhulavu stayed behind on purpose so they would reach the hidden hole. Suddenly, Chiku stepped on the grass and fell into the hole! When Chanchala looked back, her heart stopped. She stopped running to save her baby.

Bhulavu came laughing and shouted, “I won! I’m the fastest!” But Chanchala gave him the sweetest smile and said, “Bhulavu brother, you didn’t win the race, you lost friendship. For me, my baby is the most precious thing. Love and helping are more important than running fast.”

Bhulavu suddenly felt very ashamed. He went into the hole and carried Chiku out on his back. Chiku hugged him. Tears came to Bhulavu’s eyes. He said, “I was so silly. From today, I am your true friend.”

From that day, Bhulavu, Chanchala, and Chiku became the best friends ever. Bhulavu never felt jealous again. Instead, whenever anyone needed help, he was the first to run and help.

Moral Lesson: Being there for loved ones and making real friends is much more important than winning. Let go of jealousy and spread love.
